It’s been too long since I last organised my stuff so I’m going to start anew! I’ve read Mob Mistress and Forced Submission, so expect the reviews to pop up in the next few days! I must confess, I read both books in a day. I was intrigued by the storyline of Mob Mistress so the moment I downlaod it from Netgalley,  I read it. Also,  I bought Forced Submission today and finished it before I can even put my kindle down! BEWARE: It’s too dark a read

(I can now see why the book was BANNED from Amazon.)

Enough about me, what books have you been stacking your shelves with this week? Link your book hauls or leave a comment! Ciao peeps!

review tour

Hey fellow bookies! Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for UnHappenings by Edward Aubry! I’m not too sure whether this book falls under the YA or Adult genre since it’s time travelling, but hey, this is VERY INTERESTING! (I love books that will end up messing with your feels!)

unhappenings cover 1000Title: UnHappenings
Author: Edward Aubry
Release date: January 8th 2015
Publisher: Curiosity Quills Press
Genre: Literary Fiction, Science Fiction, Science Fiction Romance

When Nigel Walden is fourteen, the UNHAPPENINGS begin. His first girlfriend disappears the day after their first kiss with no indication she ever existed. This retroactive change is the first of

many only he seems to notice.
Several years later, when Nigel is visited by two people from his future, he hopes they can explain why the past keeps rewriting itself around him. But the enigmatic young guide shares very little, and the haggard, incoherent, elderly version of himself is even less reliable. His search for answers takes him fifty-two years forward in time, where he finds himself stranded and alone.

And then he meets Helen.

Brilliant, hilarious and beautiful, she captivates him. But Nigel’s relationships always unhappen, and if they get close it could be fatal for her. Worse, according to the young guide, just by entering Helen’s life, Nigel has already set into motion events that will have catastrophic consequences. In his efforts to reverse this, and to find a way to remain with Helen, he discovers the disturbing truth about the unhappenings, and the role he and his future self have played all along.

Equal parts time-travel adventure and tragic love story, Unhappenings is a tale of gravely bad choices, and Nigel’s struggle not to become what he sees in the preview of his worst self.

Credentials: Former D.I.R.E. Enemy Agent, D.I.R.E. Double Agent

Enhancement: Muscle Acceleration/Strength

Now that he’s part of the D.I.R.E. Agency’s elite squad of super-powered agents, Jaydan Rose is walking the straight and narrow. He absolutely, positively avoids three things: high-maintenance women, trouble, and Hope Powers.

Days away from his estranged brother’s wedding, Jaydan gets a lead on the missing sister-in-law of Riordan “Saint” St. James, a fellow agent. If he can locate her, perhaps he can make up for not being there when Saint had needed him most.

As the only daughter of one of the richest men in the world, and with a special power of her own, Hope Powers wants to be taken seriously. If she can prove the D.I.R.E. Agency needs her new software application, she’ll have the credibility and position she craves.

When she threatens to search for the missing woman with or without him, Jaydan’s conscience compels him to take her. However, when danger and close quarters prove too much for their passion, Jaydan knows his list of things he absolutely, positively avoids has just disintegrated.

When their quest uncovers scandalous secrets and decades old dangers, they realize they’ve stumbled onto something bigger than themselves. While the lines of reality and imitation become blurred, a psychotic maniac makes plans for Hope.

Will Jaydan’s past rear its ugly head and destroy them both, or does history have plans of its own?

Review

Enhancement, agency, secrets, dangers?!

HELL YEAH! THIS IS MY KIND OF BOOK!

This is my first D.I.R.E Agency novel and I’m just sitting here, the wheels whirring in my mind, wondering…WHY IN THE WORLD HAVE I NOT FOUND THIS SERIES SOONER! All this enhancement stuff sounds like the Avengers or Nikita’s Division at work here!

(Probably part of the reason why I was so excited for this book!)

Meet Jaydan Rose, an enemy-agent-turned-good and now a D.I.R.E agent with muscle strength enhancement. He avoid high-maintenance women, trouble and Hope Powers.

Meet Hope Powers, the daughter of one of the richest men in the world, who wants to be taken seriously by others and is willing to go to great lengths to prove she is not an airhead.

I like how stubborn and resilient Hope is, which is also why Jaydan is attracted to her! She is a living spitfire and has a little special power on her own. She’s stubborn and it must have been one hell of a job for Jaydan to keep Hope safe when they went on the mission!

I love the interaction between the characters, especially for Jaydan and Hope! It’s like one moment they are making snide remarks about each other, the next its BAM, extremely hot tension! I would say the tension is flowing, but it feels more like them electrocuting each other with passion!

You know, like…*ELECTRICITY CRACKLING AGGRESSIVELY*

Can I just say that…THIS NOVEL IS FILLED WITH PLOT TWISTS THAT WILL KEEP YOU SQUIRMING, WAILING AND MAKING WHALE NOISES?! One second its happiness, the next sadness and anger and lots of emotions.

Just when you think everything is fine and KABOOM! The author throws a surprise bomb and blinds your emotional mind! Reading this novel has introduce me to the author, Joni Hahn and now, I want to read her D.I.R.E. Agency novels!

(TIME FOR BOOK HUNTING!)

Highly recommended for mature readers and those who would love their characters stubborn and sizzling with hotness!

Excerpt

“Les, why is your father calling me?”

Shutting her eyes against the dread that settled in her chest, she groaned to herself. She couldn’t open that door. If she did, she’d make a complete fool of herself.

Walking over to the dresser, she checked her phone. Three missed calls and a text. Her father must’ve checked his DNA tracker and realized she was in Hawaii.

“Les…”

Looking at the door, she spoke in a raised voice. “Um, I’m not sure. Why don’t you call him back?”

Jaydan chuckled in the hallway. “You didn’t tell him you were coming to Hawaii, did you?”

Swallowing hard, she gave her chin a determined tilt. “I don’t report my whereabouts to my father. I’m not a child.”

His sardonic chuckle angered her.

Storming over to the door, she told herself she had to remember this. During those smokin’ hot visions, she had to conjure up this memory and the dozens like it she’d experienced in the past.

“Hell princess, you –“

She whipped open the door to arms’ length. Jaydan stood naked in her doorway, save for a pair of gray, athletic shorts that hung low on his hips. Water droplets hung from his dark, wavy hair and dotted his broad shoulders. His arms and shoulders looked huge, the angles and braids of muscle sharp rather than round, the sinew dense and inflexible rather than pliant flesh. His sculpted torso was covered in hard, ridged muscles with a light dusting of dark hair. He smelled of rosewood and jasmine, his copper and gold armbands branding him a masculine god.

Now, she understood his cougar-like grace, his confident saunter. No man on earth could call himself cut as long as Jaydan Rose walked around. He epitomized the term.

His eyes swirled with dark desire, their focus on her chest. Glancing down, she saw her robe gaped open, exposing the cleavage between her breasts.

She should cover herself. Close the door and walk away. Yet, she stood there, allowing him his fill while she took her fill of him. The sensation started deep inside, her mind recalling the vision, her body readying itself for him.

There was more than one way to prove she wasn’t a child.

With a hesitant reach, she feathered her fingers down the ridges of his abdomen. The muscles contracted beneath her touch, rippling behind her caress in a symphony of sensuality.

His half smile made her toes curl, his voice a husky croon.  “My turn.”

She believes the world can never have too many superheroes, and anxiously waits for the call when one will need help saving the world… or getting into his costume. Never Forgotten Love by S.M. Stryker
Release Date: December 27th 2015

Beckett was smaller than most boys his age, having little to no self-esteem or confidence because of the verbally and physical abuse he faced at the hands of his mother, the one person who should love him unconditionally, because of this he was an easy target for other kids to pick on him.

But He found his best friend in Harlow. Not only was she beautiful, she was tough too. She was always there for him from the first day in first grade. They spent every minute of their time together as young children that was allowed, he even helped her with her interest in cupcakes.

As they grew older, that started spending a lot of time at the local park talking about their dreams for the future. That is until Beckett had to move and leave Harlow behind, he was thirteen and devastated. They promised to stay in touch, Harlow gave him a bracelet with a half of a heart medallion that when put together said ‘Best Friends Always’ but that ended when Beckett’s mother took away his belongings including his computer and phone which had all of Harlow’s information in it.

In high school, he was still the little guy, and continued to be the subject of bullying, so he started to take Krav Mega classes to learn to protect himself and regain his self-esteem and confidence.

After graduating high school he finally grew, he wasn’t the same little boy that always seemed to have the kick me sign on his back. Even after Ten years, Beckett never went a day without thinking of Harlow, every decision he ever made, was made with her in mind.

He began working for Richard in high school in his computer software upstart. After college Richard talked Beckett into hiring a private investigator to look for Harlow, but she was off the grid. Will Beckett find Harlow? and if he does will she forgive him for breaking their promise? Or maybe she is married already, and what demons does she carry?

NOTE: This book is a series, You won’t have to read the first one to understand the following, but it will cross over. The first book is Stolen Innocence.

About the author:

fS.M. Stryker grew up on a small farm in Oregon with her two brothers.

She married her husband 27 years ago. It was important to her to be able to stay at home to raise their four daughters.

She wasn’t an avid reader, although she always thought her life would make a good book. A few years ago she picked up FSOG and The Crossfire Series and was drawn to the characters; the storylines moved her more than anything. Her life changed at that point, She could relate to the characters and what they had gone through. She devoured books after that, sometimes reading 8-10 books a week, and finding new authors she enjoyed reading. She couldn’t be without a book, her IPad or IPhone anything that she could download her kindle app onto.

Knowing she had always wanted to write but kept putting it off, she emailed a few of her favorite authors that gave her some very good advice. So she finally went for it.

EXCERPT

Except #1

In this excerpt, Jess and Raum are on first official date and they’re trying to get to know each other.

“So what’s a deal breaker for you? Raum asked. “The one thing that would make you cut tail if you met your perfect man?

“I hate liars,” Jessa said trying to read Raum’s reaction. No tells. No wonder he was in diplomacy. She swore he must have did a stint with the CIA. ‘cause he had a serious poker face.

“So you’ve never lied to someone you loved to protect them from harm or hurt? He asked.

Jessa shook her head, “I can’t remember the last time I told a lie that wasn’t self serving. In most cases, either I was because afraid of the punishment my dad would dish out or I just didn’t want to get caught. I guess what I’m trying to say is one small lie no matter what your intentions are tarnishes the truth.”

“So the moral of the lesson is liars are magicians ——”

“And magicians are masters of illusions. And what are illusions if not lies.”

He smirked.  “Wrong. The lesson is to stay close enough to the truth  so you don’t get caught, sweetie.”

Raum laughed. “So just because the man wants to move on with his life you believe he hasn’t mourned his wife long enough? Abaddon and I are not the closest of friends and probably never will be but I don’t think I would deny him the right to happiness.”

“I’m not saying he doesn’t deserve to be happy,” Jessa replied, “I just don’t think you can ever mourn a lost long enough. Imagine meeting that special someone and suddenly tragedy rips them from your life. I don’t’ believe there is enough days in a lifetime to fill that void, or to mourn such a loss. You move on because you have to but there’s a part of you that dies with that person and it can never be resurrected.

How INFERNAL ICE was born

Infernal Ice was born of a short story that I initially wrote a few years ago for the 1NS series by Decadent Publishing. As I outlined the short, I kept on getting more and more ideas until I was completely outside of all the submission requirements. Once I outlined Raum Corvus’ character, there was no way this short would see the light of day. Raum Corvus’ devilish good looks, charm, wit, and courage swept me off my feet. I knew, from that moment, in order to do him justice as well as his love for Jessa- Belle (the heroine of Infernal Ice) only a novel would do. So I wrote the first draft, edited and revised it until I was teary when I wrote the very last sentence. ..(Yes, I know… I’m so mushyJ)

The next bump in the road was I no longer liked the original title ( Styx and Stones). I played around with the story elements long enough until I got a title I felt was the right fit and of course, I was happy with.

The cover is the work of Kim Killion and it captures every aspect of the novel: my city, the love story and the characters.

There you have it …

My pick for this week’s WoW is…

Catch Me When I Fall by Vicki LeighCatch me when I fallTitle: Catch Me When I Fall (Dreamcatcher #1)

Author: Vicki Leigh
Release date: October 23rd 2014
Publisher: Curiosity Quills Press
Genre: Young Adult/Fantasy/Paranormal Romance

Recruited at his death to be a Protector of the Night, seventeen-year-old Daniel Graham has spent two-hundred years fighting Nightmares and guarding humans from the clawed, red-eyed creatures that feed off people’s fears. Each night, he risks his eternal life, having given up his chance at an afterlife when he chose to become a Protector. That doesn’t stop a burnt-out Daniel from risking daring maneuvers during each battle. He’s become one of the best, but he wants nothing more than to stop.

Then he’s given an assignment to watch over sixteen-year-old Kayla Bartlett, a clinically depressed patient in a psychiatric ward. Nightmares love a human with a tortured past. Yet, when they take a deep interest in her, appearing in unprecedented numbers, the job becomes more dangerous than any Daniel’s ever experienced. He fights ruthlessly to keep the Nightmares from overwhelming his team and Kayla. Soon, Daniel finds himself watching over Kayla during the day, drawn to why she’s different, and what it is about her that attracts the Nightmares. And him.

A vicious attack on Kayla forces Daniel to break the first Law and reveal his identity. Driven by his growing feelings for her, he whisks her away to Rome where others like him can keep her safe. Under their roof, the Protectors discover what Kayla is and why someone who can manipulate Nightmares has her in his sights. But before they can make a move, the Protectors are betrayed and Kayla is kidnapped. Daniel will stop at nothing to save her. Even if it means giving up his immortality.

I can’t wait for Vicki Leigh’s debut novel! Catch Me When I Fall seems like a very interesting read. I, for one, wants to get my hands on this book and devour it immediately when it’s released! Plus, this is one of the rare times where an YA novel is told from a guy’s point of view!
