Some tombs should never be opened…

Fluorine uranium carbon potassium. Jane’s experiment really went wrong this time. After a fatal accident, teen scientist Jane becomes the first modern-day…mummy. Waking up in the Egyptian underworld without a heart certainly isn’t the best—especially when it means Anubis, god of embalming, has to devour her soul. Yuck. But when Jane meets the drop-dead gorgeous god, suddenly she’s thinking this might not be the worst thing to happen. And then she is pushed to do the impossible—just time-travel and kill King Tut. Well, every experiment has variables which can end in disaster… Jane just wishes she could decide whether she wants to strangle Anubis or kiss him.

Jane Unwrapped is an extremely unique fantasy novel! There have been so many books with Greek mythology, and I’ve read quite a few of them, but reading a romance story with the Egyptian mythology is definitely a first for me!

One thing about Jane Unwrapped, is that I find myself hating, loving, and shipping the characters in the story simultaneously! One moment I am rooting for Jane and Anubis, or Jane and King Tut, the other moment I’m wondering why Anubis or King Tut did what they did.

It’s all so mysterious! Once you start Jane Unwrapped, the only thing you want to do is to continue turning the next page, no matter how many times you tell yourself, “I will stop at this chapter”!

One of the most wonderful (and painful) part of the story, is that its plot will leave you guessing for more! Literally. I had to guess whether Anubis and Tut have feelings for Jane… Okay wait, let me rephrase that. Both of them do feel something for Jane, but whether or not that feeling is mutually pleasant…or UNPLEASANT, that is something for the readers to find out!

What I love about Jane Unwrapped…is that it leaves me guessing at every page I read! This is truly an exciting novel to read and I find it hard to believe that this is the authors’ debut novel! I am definitely looking forward to more novels from Leah and Kate Rooper!

Highly recommended for those who would love a mythology fantasy story!

EXCERPT

Lisa opens the door still in her pajama pants and a tank top. Jack’s behind her in nothing but a pair of sweatpants. I raise an eyebrow in silent judgment. How could she have Jack spend the night with Colin here?

“Where’s Colin?” she asks, looking past me.

“What do you mean, where’s Colin? Isn’t he here?”

“No. He never came home last night. I thought he was with you.”

“You were with me.”

“No, I mean after we separated. I figured he showed up at your place.” Her cheeks turn bright red.

“You’ve got to be kidding me.” My hands ball into fists of anger at my sides. “You can’t really be that…” I bite off the words. It’s not my place to share how Colin feels about her.

“He probably left with one of those girls we saw him with,” she says.

I push into her apartment and find Colin’s duffel bag on the floor where it’s been since he began camping out on her couch last week. “So, he just blew off his train?”

“Maybe,” she shrugs.

“Not likely,” I say, stalking back outside, unease gnawing through my stomach. If all this other shit wasn’t going on, I could chalk it up to Colin getting laid, but I can’t shake the feeling something isn’t right. I’m halfway to Bryce’s before I realize that’s where I’m headed. Hopefully he takes me seriously.

My fast walk turns into a jog as I cover the remaining three blocks and two flights of stairs down to the apartment he shares with Jack. I’ve only been here once before, but I think I remember which one it is. I lift my hand and knock on the pale blue door then pace the small empty concrete porch. Thirty seconds pass before I knock again, louder and longer this time. Still no answer. I’m beginning to think he’s not here when the lock clicks and the door cracks open.

Bryce swings the door wider, and my eyes zero in on a bare chest. My gaze drifts from his firm abs and pecs up to meet a pair of gray eyes, squinted against the morning light. Confusion fills his features as he stares at me.

“Colin didn’t come home last night,” I blurt out, my voice breaking.

His gaze rests on my face for a moment before circling the room, reminding me we’re being monitored. “I’m sure he’s fine, but let me get dressed, and we’ll look for him.”

Stepping inside, I close the door and bounce on the balls of my feet while I wait for him. The place is decorated in neo-classic guy. A fireplace and hearth runs the length of the front of the apartment, and opposite that is a solid glass wall overlooking a weedy, overgrown garden. The limited furniture is a jumble of chairs, a couch, and a couple of mismatched tables littered with empty beer bottles.

Bryce dresses in record time and takes my hand, pulling me outside. He leads the way to the depot to catch a train back to the nightclub. “I want to retrace his steps after we left,” he says. “He might’ve just found some company for the evening.”

“That’s what Lisa said, but I think there’s more to it.”

“It’s no secret how he feels about Lisa. He might’ve just wanted to get away for the night.”

“But his bag is still at her place. He would’ve had to come get it before catching his train.”

The nightclub is deserted with the exception of a handful of staff still cleaning up. Bryce walks up to a lanky guy pushing a broom. “Can I talk to the manager?”

A woman in her mid-thirties approaches us a few minutes later, wiping her hands on an apron. She sweeps a chunk of blond hair out of her face with the back of her wrist. “Can I help you?”

“Yeah, I’m Detective Cooper,” Bryce says, flashing his credentials. “We’re looking for a friend. He was here with us last night, but we’re not sure what happened to him.”

She glances between me and Bryce. “Did something happen to him?”

“That’s what we’re trying to find out. Can we take a look at the security feed from last night?”

“Sure,” she says, inclining her head. “Come on back.”

We follow her past the bar and into a small office beyond the kitchen. “Here,” she says, indicating a chair in front of a display screen.

Bryce sits and she shows him how to move through the video files. Bryce locates the one time-stamped from when we were here and forwards through frame-by-frame. I see us leaving for the night and Colin dancing with the girls, getting another drink, dancing some more, then about an hour later, Colin walks toward the exit alone. A guy in a sweatshirt, hood pulled up, hands shoved into his jeans pockets, approaches Colin. They appear to exchange words. Colin nods before following the guy out the front door.

“What the hell?” I ask. “Who was that guy?” Terror sweeps through me, turning my blood to ice. “And where the hell is Colin?”

“I don’t know,” Bryce says, reaching over to squeeze my hand. “But we’ll find him, I promise.”

Aurora Sky Dream Cast

Aurora Sky – Adelaide Kane (I recently watched Reign about Mary, Queen of Scots on NetFlix and am impressed with Adelaide Kane. She has an air of naivety and kindness, yet is unrelenting when push comes to shove). Jennifer Lawrence could definitely kick serious vampire ass, too!

Dante – Chris Pratt (I could not stop thinking about Dante when I saw Christ Pratt as Peter Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy. They have that same goofy, headstrong nature. They even like to sing fun songs.)

Fane Donado – Can we resurrect James Dean? ;) I’m sure Alex Pettyfyer would do quite nice.

Noel Harper – I could see Rachael Leigh Cook, Lucy Hale, or Ariel Winter pulling off Noel.

Valerie Ward – Isla Fisher (She has the red hair! I’ve never seen Fisher play a mean part, but she’s got the right look. I’m sure she could pull Valerie off!)

EXCERPT

I rush back up the dark stairwell, shoving the key into the doorknob. It takes a minute for the lock to click and I push myself inside the apartment, securing every lock and deadbolt. I can’t stay here in Hutchinson, Kansas any longer. Pulling my phone from my purse, I text Weston.

Tatiana is here. It’s not safe for me.

I grab the few belongings that have any value to me, sentimental or otherwise, and shove it into my shoulder bag, including the stolen silver necklace. It has value and if I’m forced on the run, I’ll need money to survive.

I know.

What did Weston mean he knew Tatiana is at the bar? Had he seen her? Is he there?

What do you mean, you know? I type into the phone. If he saw her, why didn’t he warn me? I can’t go down out the front door and it’s only a matter of time until she finds me just a few feet away. I grow restless waiting for an answer.

The  phone  buzzes  and  displays an  incoming  call  from  Weston. “Wes,  tell  me  you’re here.” The only thing to do is hop in his car and drive into the night, far from Kansas.

A female’s voice bubbles with laughter. “Oh he’s coming darling, but you should know he won’t get here in time. Amazing how easy it is to clone a phone number and steal his service. The advancements Stem Tech has made is encouraging.”

Hello, my name is Raven, or at least that’s what I have always been told. I live at the Halfway House with Eloise Mayflower, my den mother. I am a paranormal, I am seventeen years old, and, oh yeah, I am a vampire.

Whenever I ask about the family I can’t remember, I am met with hushed whispers and looks of deception. Something is not right; I might be a vampire, but I am not stupid.

An afternoon chat with council member Rumor Winslow leaves me terrified …

Hidden identities?
Lives in imminent danger?

EXCERPT

“Who are you hiding from, little bird?” spoken by a sultry voice from behind her. Raven jumped, her hand clasping her chest. She had been sitting across from the Halfway House, just staring at the door. There was some dense forest and a few fallen trees, they had a great pondering seat just out of the line of sight, or so she thought.

“Trying to give a girl a heart attack?” Raven asked as she added some panting for esthetic purposes.

“Wouldn’t you have to have a heart in order to have it attacked?” Samuel raised an eyebrow as he wandered in, sitting on a log a few feet away from her.

Raven’s head tilted in curiosity. What a strange comment for a human to make… unless…Raven thought hard as she looked straight at Samuel. His golden locks of rustic hair tumbling down his back was just dreamy. Raven sighed every time she saw it. Her need to reach out and touch it was almost unbearable. His eyes locked on hers as she grew more and morecurious.

“It would be hard to function without one.” Raven decided to try the ‘we’re all human,’approach, no sense in getting the council’s feathers in a flap over a simple error in judgment.

Samuel spread open his left-hand palm toward her, and with a wiggle of his eyebrows he slanted the corner of his mouth up in a wry smile. He turned his hand, allowing Raven to see the PSE tattoo on the webbing between his thumb and pointer finger.

Oh, good Lord. He’s a para, thought Raven. Trying to ground her thoughts as her hand reached for the solid wood feel of the tree stump. Just a little wiggle of his eyebrows, and I’m already tingling more than a church full of bells on a Sunday.

“What are you?” Raven whispered to Samuel, begging her voice to stay strong and steady.

Samuel chuckled, the sound deep and husky. Leaning forward, resting his elbows on his knees, he said, “I am anything you want me to be, little bird.”

“Anything, huh? Baboon? Walrus? Dickie bird?” Raven’s laugh was not joyful, although her body was betraying her own self-control. Luckily her brain was still functioning as an adult.

“Oh, I got it. What about smoke… be some smoke and blow away on the breeze,” she stated standing up, turning her back on him and beginning to walk away. She said over her shoulder, her voice changing to a solid cold tone as she remembered what was going on at home,

“‘Cause I don’t have time to play games, little boy.”

In what seemed like a split second his arms were wrapped around her waist and she was being pulled hard against his chest. Her breath escaping in small, unexpected gasps. Samuel leaned in, his lips barely separate from hers. Feeling his breath tickle her face as he began to speak, so intensely, she could look nowhere else but into his amazing eyes. Lost in the words that now danced around in her head.

“I don’t play games, little bird,” he almost growled. “I became aware of you a decade ago.” His hand crept down to cradle her ass, giving it a gentle squeeze as he pulled her hard against him. “I’ve searched this planet for you. Visiting you whenever I could in our dreams.” Samuel relished in the moment he felt Raven had melted into his arms as he ground against her, her arms wrapping tightly around his massive shoulders. “I don’t play games, little bird.” He lifted her off the ground and instinctively Raven wrapped her legs around his waist. Feeling him under her, sent her body into a dark abyss she feared she might never be found in.

“You are mine,” and with those three little words, his mouth engulfed hers. His hand reaching behind her head, his fingers entwining in her hair as he held her head in place. Samuel’s tongue delved into her mouth, twisting and turning, introducing Raven to a dance she was made to do only with him. Hearing a soft moan from Raven as she threaded her fingers into his long ruffled hair nearly did him over. Knowing he was near his limit, he pulled back to looked into her eyes. Raven opened her eyes slowly. He could see they were glazed over with passion, this was a look he wanted to gaze into every second of every day.

“What are you?” Raven whispered, her lips swollen from an abuse she never wanted to end. Smiling as she felt his chest vibrate with his chuckle.

“My name is Samuel, and I am a centaur. I am your centaur.”

REVIEW

*When I have finished reading Remote, I found myself taking a deep breath and I put my kindle down gently*

*Denial starts to hit me and…*

NO.

I DID NOT JUST READ THE ENDING.

THERE MUST BE AT LEAST A FEW HUNDRED PAGES BEHIND THIS.

*FLIPS ANXIOUSLY THROUGH MY KINDLE*

That, my dear bookies, was my reaction when I flip to the last page of Remote! Oh god, I sincerely hope there is a sequel to this. Remote can be a standalone novel…if you readers can take the pain!

Alright, now onto the novel!

Remote is a science-fiction novel for Young Adults, but the entire concept is pretty cool! It’s like a mixture of Bruce Willis’ 2009 film, Surrogates with elements of The Hunger Games and Doctor Who! All about how lunatic people can be in the face of modern technology!

Let me just say that the author has amazing description abilities! I could literally visualise everything that was going on in the book…which includes the darker parts of the novel.

Another reason why I love this book is because…it’s not your typical YA novel! Nope, its boy-meet-girl and his life changes instead of the other way around! Their budding romance is the cutest kind of love I have ever read about and it hurts me and my heart to see Yara and Joshua BEING HURT!

(Being hurt refers to both physical and mentally! *wails*)

Highly recommended for all readers to read REMOTE!
